Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad inspected the Indiara Canteen on New BEL Road, Radhakrishna Temple Ward on Sunday.

During the inspection, the Commissioner went around the Indira Canteen facility to check if all the safety and quality parameters were being followed. The Commissioner had also interacted with the chefs and had a first hand experience of food being prepared and served. The Commissioner and the BBMP staffs inspected the weighing machine available in the Indira Canteen to check if the canteen was serving the mandated quantity of food as there were news reports that the food served was of lesser quantity than specified.

“In every kitchen, the quantity of each item being dispatched to each of the Indira Canteen is being weighed on an electronic weighing machine which is kept under CCTV camera and the same is photographed through the Mobile App developed recently and this information is uploaded to the BBMP portal immediately,’’ the BBMP Commissioner said.

To ensure the quality of food being served at Indira Canteens, an Indira Canteen Monitoring Cell has been established. The cell is headed by an officer of the ran of Joint/Additional Commissioner assisted by one chief officer (colonel rank) and junior commissioned officers. These JCOs will conduct regular inspections and submit the report.
