Bengaluru: Keeping in mind the safety of the general public and to avoid any kind of fire mishaps, the BBMP, city police and department of fire and emergency services have issued stringent guidelines for the sale of firecrackers during this Deepavali festival, which will be celebrated in the month of November.
According to the revised guidelines prepared by the civic and police authorities, the sale of firecrackers has been banned in residential areas. The guidelines also state that this year, the sellers must apply for permission to sell firecrackers. Permission letters will be allotted to the sellers through a lottery draw and they must furnish two DDs of Rs. 6,000.
The guidelines further stipulate that only those who have GST TIN numbers, Aadhar card, and voter ID, will be allowed to apply for permission. The sale of firecrackers will be allowed only in the BBMP grounds of the city.
“If anyone sells firecrackers outside the designated BBMP grounds, a criminal case will be registered against them. We don’t want to put the lives of the public at risk,” said a senior police officer.
