Bengaluru: In a big embarrassment to the BBMP corporators and the council, a week after the council approved the budget of Rs.21,958 crores for the financial year 2019-20, commissioner N Manjunath Prasad has written a letter to the urban development department seeking to reduce the size of the budget to Rs. 9,000 crores.
According to the sources, the commissioner has written the letter keeping in mind various realistic revenue estimations. “Generally the BBMP authorities take up the developmental works by giving job codes even if there is no money in the accounts. It later less to job code scam. Commissioner doesn’t want this to repeat,” sources said.
According to the sources, the commissioner informed the urban development principal secretary that the pressure on contractor bill payment is increasing year by year. To keep them under check budget size has been brought down.
