Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) approved its budget amid a walkout by the BJP members.

The allegation of the BJP members was that the budget was discriminatory in nature as no funds were allocated for the constituencies and wards represented by the BJP. They shouted slogans against the mayor, deputy mayor and the state government urging them to modify the budget proposals, but coalition corporators declined. In the end, the BJP corporators walked out of the meeting.

Later, the council approved the budget unanimously. Speaking on the occasion, BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad said efforts will be done to mobilise the tax and non-tax revenues. “We started confiscating the properties of those who are yet to make their tax payment,” he announced.

“Presently, the BBMP is paying Rs.20 crores every month to the BESCOM towards street light electricity bill, but soon it will come down to Rs three crores as all the street lights will be replaced with LED bulbs through a private agency,” he said.
