Bengaluru: Accumulated explosive gas can be deadly if it reaches an ignition source. Unfortunately, gas explosions can create a far greater force, collapsing walls and even entire buildings, sending debris to great distances. Hence, gas emergencies can be deadly and destructive for civilians and fire-fighters alike. So, how to protect oneself from a gas emergency? A government school student in Bengaluru has come out with an innovative concept wherein she has created a robotic sensor that can turn off the gas cylinder in case of a gas leak. As the gas cylinder is turned off automatically, a possible tragedy is averted. This innovation has been named as “Suraksha Ma.”

In fact, Suraksha Ma was one of the hundreds of projects that were displayed at the Dayananda Sagar Talent Search 2017. This is the platform created by the prestigious DSU Group to encourage students’ innovations and inventions. After a two-day brain storming session, the students came out with interesting projects that were not just mind blowing but also futuristic in vision. Interestingly, the “Suraksha Ma” experiment was innovated by Shravani. Daughter of an auto driver, Shravani is studying at a government high school and wants to keep everyone safe at home in case of possible gas leaks.

The other innovations that were exhibited by the students are-Quad-Copter, Bluetooth Robot, Vibration Detector, Bomb Detecting Robot, Travelmate, Envirochat, Browsafe, Android Master and Dietrecipe etc. Interestingly, the students also showed their prowess in mobile apps. A group of students from the Army Public School came up with an app to hack all the wi-fi passwords in educational campuses to show how the internet security needs to be strengthened.

Speaking on the occasion, DSU Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. Janardhan R said, “Today’s innovations are the great assets of tomorrow. We have conducted DSU 2017 to showcase the hidden talent of the students. The DSU talent search provided a one-of-its-kind opportunity to students from class 9-12. During the programme, the students got hands-on training from experts. Now, the DSU will empower the participating students to work on a design and demonstrate their skills through 3D models, videos, oral and poster presentations. Overall, the talent search promised to open horizons for the young minds by testing their talent through a number of contests; programming in C Language to elocution contests and quiz competitions in Science and Mathematics.”

DSU’s Talent Search

Dayananda Sagar University (DSU), one of the prestigious campuses in the country, has chosen a unique path to transform India into a leader in innovation. After setting up the state of-the-art laboratories to foster innovation, DSU is now going a step ahead by identifying and rewarding the country’s talented youth through the DSU Talent Search 2017. The event nurtures the talent in an individual/group of students and empowers them with new skills which can be applied in a real-world situation. The Chairperson of DSU Dr. Premchand Sagar, Director of Innovation Dr. Sanjay Chitnis, Co-Founder Shivakumara A, Secretary Galiswamy and Dean-SOE of DSU Dr. Srinivas were present in the event.
