Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, an autorickshaw driver was attacked by miscreants for refusing to give them a ride on hire. His sister and wife, who came to his rescue, were also attacked.
The accused have been identified as Jammu, a resident if Chamundi Nagar in RT Nagar and Guddu, resident of Babureddy Layout also in RT Nagar.
According to reports, on Wednesday night, two accused were travelling from Hebbal to Shivajinagar on a scooter when it ran out of fuel on the Annamaria Public School Road. They stopped Abdul Hajeej, a resident of Bhuvaneswari Nagar in RT Nagar, who was riding his brand new rickshaw and asked him for a ride. When he refused, they turned hostile and attacked him.
According to Hajeej's complaint, the two accused pulled out lethal weapons from the scooter and threatened him. Fearing for his life, the auto driver ditched his vehicle and ran towards his house. He added that, while he was chased by one of the miscreants, the other stayed back and threw a hollow cement block on the front of his rickshaw and joined the chase moments later.
Upon entering his house, his sister and wife attempted to help him but were also attacked by the miscreants.
The two soon left the area after threatening to return for money. A local resident alerted the police of the incident.
As the miscreants had left the scooter back at the origin of the attack, the police were able to nab the two based on the registration number plate.
The two have been booked under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 354 (assault to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 387 (putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) and 427 (mischief causing damaged).
