Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Urban district administration removed encroachments on 23 acres 7 guntas of government land in Anekal taluk on Monday. The total market value of the land is estimated to be Rs. 121 crore.
The land recovered on Monday include that allegedly encroached by two private educational institutions: Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (VYASA), Jigani and Alliance University, Karpoora village, Anekal.
V. Shankar, Deputy Commissioner, said that VYASA had encroached on 4 acres 34 guntas of gomala land in Jigani worth Rs. 20 crore. “In around half an acre, the institute has built 15 luxury rooms while the rest of the land was being used as a play area. We have locked all the rooms and taken possession of the land,” he said.
Shankar said the institute on Monday voluntarily surrendered the land and applied for regularisation and allotment. It is up to the government to take a call on allotting the land to the institute.
The officials got back 5 acres 10 guntas allegedly encroached by Alliance University in Karpoora, worth Rs. 50 crore.
