Bengaluru: The Siddapura police have arrested five men including an astrologer for allegedly instigating an employee of an electronic goods company to steal 1,000 computer monitors worth Rs. 58 lakh.
According to the police, Damodar, 42, worked as store in-charge for a hardware company that manufactured and sold computer accessories. He would often visit astrologer Krishnaraju, 58, and on one of his visits, the latter allegedly advised Damodar to steal goods from the company and sell it to meet his debts. He allegedly asked for a percentage of the cash as payment.
On his advice, Damodar recruited three associates: Saravana and Seenu, who work as drivers for a courier company, and his brother-in-law, Ramdas.
“As the manager, Damodar knew that Saravana and Seenu were delivering a consignment of 1,000 monitors from Tamil Nadu to the Bengaluru warehouse. On August 11, he along with Ramdas intercepted the truck, and removed the monitors which they stashed in Rajendra’s house,” said the police. Saravana and Seenu later drove the truck to the warehouse, where Damodar signed off on the consignment and issued a receipt for the electronic goods. The incident came to light during a company audit.
After conducting an internal probe, company officials filed a complaint with the police. The Siddapura police detained Damodar for questioning where he confessed to the crime.
The police have recovered 671 monitors from the accused.
