Bengaluru: Janata Dal (Secular) has set December 20 as deadline to announce the first list of candidates for the Assembly elections.
JD(S) State president H.D. Kumaraswamy is camping in the party’s office for the past four days to finalise candidates.
“Leaders held discussions with the aspirants for the 13 Assembly seats in Bengaluru on Thursday and almost finalised candidates,” Kumaraswamy said.
On BJP and Congress deploying C.P. Yogeshwar and Zameer Ahmed Khan respectively to attract potential candidates from JD (S) in Mysuru region, he said: “It is a ploy of national parties to create confusion in JD (S). But, no potential leader from party will defect.”
He claimed, on the other hand, that there could be defections to JD (S).
According to him, the party has divided 224 constituencies under A, B, and C categories. While 80 seats have been listed under A (with very high winning chances) some 90 seats listed under B category (where party can win, if it fields a winnable candidate and employing more effort). Rest of the 54 seats comes under category C, where there is little hope. “Most of the seats under category `A’ falls are in south and central parts of Karnataka,” he said.
