Assembly elections: Congress selects 15 women candidates

Bengaluru: Fifteen women figure in the first list Congress candidates in tune with AICC president Rahul Gandhi’s assurance that more women would be given tickets this time.

The following are the women candidates in the Congress list: Lakshmi Ravindra Hebbalkar (Belgaum Rural), Anjali Nimbalkar (Khanapur), Umashree (Terdal), K Fatima, Sharada Mohan Shetty (Kumta), A L Pushpa (Jagalur), Motamma (Mudigere), Vani Krishna Reddy (Chintamani), Roopa Shashidhar (Kolar Gold Fields), G Padmavathi (Rajajinagar), Soumya R (Jayanagar), Sushma Rajgopal Reddy (Bommanahalli), Kirtana Rudre Gowda (Belur), Shakuntala T Shetty (Puttur), Dr M C Mohan Kumari (Gundlupet).

The party has also allotted tickets to 15 Muslim candidates and another two are expected to be included in the second list that is expected to be released within a few days.

All the seven JD(S) rebel candidates who had joined the Congress ahead of the polls have made it to in the list. Five-time MLA from Chamarajpet, B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan, who contested on a Janata Dal (S) ticket, has been fielded from the seat.
