Asha worker carrying out COVID-19 survey heckled by residents of Sadiq Layout

Bengaluru: An Asha worker was reportedly attacked by a few residents of Bengaluru’s Sadiq layout for trying to carry out tests on suspected corona symptomatic patients and also gathering information about fever and cough from the residents of the locality.

According to the reports, the ASHA worker had visited Sadiq Layout near Tannisandra as part of an ongoing exercise launched by the state government to ascertain the number of Corona symptomatic patients in the state, which has been on high alert after severl positive cases were reported after Nizamuddin Tablighi Markaz meeting.

Shockingly, some of the residents attacked the ASHA worker, snatched away her mobile phone, threatened her and also tore the report prepared by the worker. 

As per the victim, the attack followed an annuouncement on a Mosque loudspeaker. The Masjid management, as per the victim, had announced the people not to co-operate with the workers.

Commissioner of Police Bhaskar Rao said that positive cases were reported from Sadiq layout area and hence the survey was carried out. “However, no complaint has been lodged by the victim. Police will take action if complaint is lodged,” he said.

The victim, who resides at Heggadenagar was visited by DCM Ashwath Narayan.

Similarly, a medical team that had gone to check on a patient was pelted with stones in Indore’s Tatpatti Bhakhal yesterday.
