Bengaluru: The state government announced the merger of the Arogya Karnataka scheme with the Ayushman Bharat Yojana of the union government.

Announcing the decision, medical education minister DK Shivakumar informed that under the scheme, the state government increased the annual limit for all the BPL families from existing Rs. 2 lakhs to Rs.5 lakhs.

“APL families will also be given Rs.1.5 lakh comprehensive coverage under the scheme,” he informed.

“A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with the union government on the merger of the scheme on October 30 itself. But keeping in mind the election code of conduct, the decision was not announced,” he said.

“A total of 1.15 lakh BPL families and 19 lakh APL families are brought under this health insurance scheme and 385 government hospitals and 531 private hospitals have been identified to provide treatment for the patients. A total of 36 hospitals of neighboring Maharastra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Goa and Andhra have also been identified to provide free treatment for the patients from the border areas,” he stated.

“As many as 1,614 diseases and procedures including 169 emergency treatments are under the scheme,” he explained.
