Bengaluru: A seer from the Tumakuru district, home turf of DCM Dr G Parameshwar has asked the parents to cut off the legs and hands of their daughters if they disobey them when it comes to marriage.

Shivacharya seer of Siddarabatte in Koratagere made this statement at an event organised to felicitate the meritorious Veerashaiva-Lingayat committee.

Recalling an incident, he said a couple came to him with their daughter and pleaded him to convince their daughter not to marry the one she was in love with.

“The girl said that she will marry only the youth she loves and if parents don’t agree she will remain unmarried. If she remains unmarried the parents will have to answer the society. I feel that the parents must amputate such girls so that the parents can tell the society that the girl is handicapped and hence is unmarried,” he said.

His statement went viral on social media with several netizens requesting the police to register an FIR.
