Bengaluru: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses plying in the city sport versatile colours like green, orange, blue etc. But now, to save the “BMTC brand”, it has been decided to convert all general BMTC buses to blue-white.
A decision has been taken regarding the same at BMTC board meeting. The new buses that will join the corporation will have the new colour and more than 6,000 old general buses will get repainted when they go for fitness certificate. The air-conditioned (Vajra-Vayuvajra) buses will continue operating in blue colour.
Before separating from the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), the BTS buses had the red colour. After launching BMTC in 1997, all its buses got the blue-white colour combination. In 2015, the colours of the buses were changed according to their routes. Metro feeder buses got orange colour, AC buses got blue and other buses were painted with green colour.
According to a senior official of BMTC, there are more than 600 AC blue buses, around 4,000 green buses and around 640 buses are in orange colour. There was no benefit from the multiple colours to the corporation. Moreover, it created confusion among passengers. BMTC buses looked like private buses. So, if it continues, the BMTC brand may become a part of history, he expressed concern.
Along with the paint, there was a change in the design of the bus as well. But, now onwards all the buses will have the same design. It will be easy to recognise the BMTC buses, he added.
