Bengaluru: While the Supreme Court has cracked the whip and stated that all wine shops and bars along national and state highways be closed down, here in the city a wine store owner has left eyebrows raised by making offers to residents to place an order for alcohol, which would be delivered right at their doorsteps!
A wine store owner has made the offer to the residents of East Bengaluru comprising Mahadevapura zone of the city. However, the surprising offer has unravelled a host of reasons and speculations behind the same.
Take a stroll down any street in Bengaluru and marketing personnel will even forcefully hand over some pamphlets, whether you like it or not. But, residents of Mahaevapura, Nallurahalli, Whitefield and nearby areas were out for 'shock' as they were given with pamphlets talking of various discounts and offers of a wine store in the vicinity.
According to local residents since last few days, a wine store owner has been distributing pamphlets related to his store among the general public to improve his sales. One of the interesting offers he has made is free home delivery of alcohol products.
While some were extremely happy about the same, some citizens raised their concern. "Even young boys are not spared. When they read such handbills they are only encouraged to use these services. This apart, as far as my knowledge goes, I think home delivery of alcoholic substances is banned in India. How is this wine store owner making such offers," questioned a local resident on conditions of anonymity.
While such is the case, there are good number of people who suspect that the bar owner may be trying new tricks in a desperate bid to reach the target fixed by the excise department!
It is said that over the last few months, department is behind all wine store owners to sell record quantity of alcohol products to reach the tax target.
