Bengaluru: Deputy Secretary to the Government, Department of Personnel & Administrative, Reforms Department (Vigilance) Pallavi Akurathi, is in the news yet again, this time, for lodging a complaint with the health department for administering expired polio vaccines to a newborn baby. Her decision to raise the issue has won the hearts of millions.
In her complaint, Akurathi stated that on October 3, she had taken her daughter to a private hospital in the city for vaccination, where the paediatrician had asked her to bring three vaccines while the hospital arranged for the polio drops. She alleged that after the vaccines were administered, she found that the dates on the polio drops were expired.
As the issue is serious in nature, and fearing a public outcry, the health department has now intervened in the matter.
The Indiranagar police have filed an FIR against the doctor and the nurse who administered the expired vaccines.
