Bengaluru: The first-ever street vendor survey carried out by the BBMP in association with Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) is now complete.
According to the findings of the survey, there are around 3,00,000 street vendors in the city as against an earlier BBMP estimate of 1.5 lakh street vendors.
The survey that was carried out for a span of one month has given a clear picture of the ground scenario and was carried out in all the ten zones of the corporation under the supervision of zonal level BBMP officers.
As expected, KR Market had the highest number of street vendors with 300 vendors found in the market at the time of the survey.
According to the BBMP officers, now based on this survey findings, street vendors will be given identity cards and dedicated space to keep their pushcarts. They will also be brought under the various social security schemes of both the state and central governments.
