87-year-old Kagodu Thimmappa is senior most candidate this election

Bengaluru: Kagodu Thimmappa (87) of the Congress, who will contest from Sagara constituency in the assembly polls is considered as the senior most candidate in the fray.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sanjeev Kumar Jha said that five candidates who are in their 80s have submitted their nominations in the state. Among them, three are from Congress and one each from BJP and JDS.

Davanagere South constituency Congress candidate Shamanooru Shivashankarappa (86) is the second eldest candidate, followed by Yadagiri Congress candidate A B Malakareddy (82), Hanagal BJP candidate C M Udasi (82) and Sindagi JDS candidate M C Managoli (82). Meanwhile, CEO informed that 3,374 candidates have submitted nominations from 224 constituencies. Among these, maximum nominations-60 were submitted from Mulabagilu constituency.

The verification of nomination letters is being done. The total number of candidates who will remain in the field will be clear by April 27 (Friday). Varuna-35, Hubballi-Dharawada Central-32, and 30 nominations have been submitted from Raichur. In more than 95 constituencies, more than 16 candidates have filed nomination, he explained.
