Bengaluru: The fourth edition of the Internation Society of Gene and Cell Therapy (ISGCT) was held by Dr Agarwal Hospitals in association with St Joseph’s college at the college auditorium on February 26th.
The conference brought together eminent scholars in the field and esteemed doctors from across the globe to discuss stem cell and gene therapy.
Keynote speaker, Dr Syed Viqar, Radiation Oncology, Imperial Hospital and Research Center said, “As a cancer specialist, I know how the disease cancer burdens several people. Almost 40 per cent of illnesses are caused by lifestyle choices but there are still chances for disease to appear despite controlling all risk factors. If we combine gene therapy with mainstream treatments, thousands of patients can benefit from this.”
Christopher, a resident of Nigeria gave his testimony of the treatment of last-stage glaucoma with the said therapy. Christopher thanked Dr Agarwal Hospitals for their treatment.
The principal of St Joseph’s College, Bengaluru, Fr Victor Lobo addressed the gathering and stated it was important to get rid of societal cancer(intolerance) along with physical cancer in our body.
Dr Agarwal Hospitals claims to have successfully treated 18,000 patients over 13 years using mana autologous DNA and stem cell therapy. Medical Director of Dr Agarwal Hospitals, Chairperson of ISGCT, Sunita Rana Agarwal explained the process while talking to NewsKarnataka. ” We take a drop of blood from the patient and create their stem cells and foetal DNA which is then injected into the patients to treat worse case scenarios like cancer, congenital errors, blindness, brain atrophy etc.
The conference was hosted both offline and online following the required Covid-19 precautionary measures.
