Bengaluru: Karnataka state, which was facing acute shortage of IAS officers, is now flooded with IAS qualified officers. On Monday, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has promoted 34 KAS officers to IAS.
“This is the provisional list. The state had recommended 56 names for the IAS promotion. UPSC has short listed 34,” said an officer from the state DPAR.
According to sources, among these 34 IAS officers 4 are working as special officers to various ministers. H Basavarajendra, who had written a letter to the governor’s office alleging that ACB was harassing him over the Shivarama Karanth layout denotification issue, has also been promoted. Chowdamma A Reddy, who was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta inside the BDA office, has also been promoted to the IAS cadre. “She has been given two months time to get cleared from this case,” informed sources.
Sources say, once UPSC confirms the promotion they will be sent for training and will join the service after a year. “This is expected to ensure enough number of IAS category officers in the state,” informed sources.
