Bengaluru: The killing of a 29-day-old baby boy has taken a rather shocking turn with the grandmother of the newborn confessing to the crime.

The newborn paid a price with his life for no mistake of his. The grandmother Vijayalakshmi (53) has told the police that she decided to kill the child only because she was left heartbroken with her son’s decision to embrace Christianity after marrying Stella, her daughter-in-law. After this, Vijayalakshmi vacated her house and moved into a rented house, very close to her house, along with her husband and younger son. Her son C Karthik and her daughter-in-law Stella together had a pair of twin about a month ago. However, on December 21, one of the babies was found strangled, with a veil around his neck and was hidden under the cot at their residence in North Street near Neelasandra in Central Bengaluru.

Following this incident, Karthik had filed a complaint against his father Chittar Raj (64), a retired army man and his younger brother C Aravind (32), who works for HAL. In his complaint, Karthik had made it clear that the family was unhappy with his marriage to Stella and this may have been the reason behind the death of the child.

The police sources said that Vijayalakshmi used to visit her son’s house on the pretext of taking care of the twin, but she always nurtured the motive of harming the children because she wanted to settle scores with her daughter-in-law.

Vijayalakshmi was booked for murder and produced before the magistrate on Tuesday. She was remanded to judicial custody.
