Bengaluru: The state government has decided to rename over 22,000 fair price shops of the state into various service delivery centres to ensure that owners get additional income beside easy service to the general public especially rural people.
As per the decision, all the fair price shops will be allowed to offer 22 services including PAN cards, passport, electricity bill payment, water bill payment etc.
As per the decision, all the fair price shops will be renamed as Seva Sindhu centres. The point of sales machines (PoS) will be used to deliver the service to the general public.
Under this ambitious project, all the fair price shop owners will be trained in the delivery of various services. In the second stage, they will be issued licenses to offer these 22 services. “In the third stage more services will be offered at these centres,” explained an officer from the state food and civil supplies department.
According to an estimation done by the department, once all the fair price shops are converted into fullfledged Seva Sindhu Centres, owners can generate up to Rs.20,000 additional income per month.
