Bengaluru: As many as 75 KSRTC and BMTC buses were damaged in stone pelting incidents in the city during the two-day bundh held on January 8 and 9. The KSRTC and BMTC incurred a loss of Rs.7.5 crores due to the damages.
According to the KSRTC sources, seven Volvo, eight Karnataka Sarige and 58 BMTC buses were damaged. Two buses were damaged in the city outskirts.
“There is a suspicion that most of the buses were damaged by the staff to make the bandh successful. The Left-wing unions are active only in the state transport now. Poor response to the bandh revealed that unions are slowly losing their grip,” informed a senior officer.
“On both days, even though police had given a green signal for the vehicle movement, the KSRTC staff wasn’t ready as part of the larger union-related issues,” he explained.
