18 candidates in fray for BBMP by-elections

Bengaluru: As many as 18 candidates are in the fray in two wards of the BBMP where by-elections were announced. The by-elections are to be held in the Kaveripura and Sagayapura wards. Friday, May 17 was the last date for the submission of the nomination papers.

The Kaveripura ward fell vacant after the death of deputy mayor Rameela Umashankar and Sagayapura ward became vacant after the demise of corporator V Elumalai.

In both the wards, the JDS and Congress continued the alliance. N Susheela will be the alliance candidate in Kaveiripura while the BJP has fielded C Pallavi.

In the Sagayapura ward, V Palani Ammal will be the JDS-Congress alliance candidate and A Jeriam will be the BJP’s candidate. Well-known rowdy sheeter and actress J Marimuttu is also contesting as an independent candidate.

May 20 is the last date for the withdrawal of the nomination papers.
