Bengaluru: As the Congress-Janata Dal (S) state coalition under leader of the Assembly and Chief Minister, H D Kumaraswamy which moved the confidence motion here on Tuesday, July 23, failed to prove its majority.
At first, the confidence motion was moved through voice vote on the request of Opposition party leader B S Yeddyurappa.
The officials concerned then began taking headcounts row wise of those for and against the government.
As the Congress-JDS coalition headcount reduced to 99 and the Bharatiya Janata Party in the opposition got 105, the 14-month coalition government was dissolved.
The magic number needed was 103.
With this, the 18-day seemingly non-stop saga of Karnataka political crisis came to an end.
Meanwhile, there were tears in the eyes of CM HDK and his wife and MLA Anitha Kumaraswamy during the floor test.
Later, CM HDK met Speaker Ramesh Kumar in his chamber and will be meeting the Governor of Karnataka Vajubhai Vala’s at his official residence to submit his resignation from CM’s post.
On the other hand, the BJP under the leadership of B S Yeddyurappa, is expected to meet Governor Vajubhai Vala and submit a request to form the government.
