12-YO boy who navigated ambulance in floods gets bravery commendation

Bengaluru: Amid dangerous flood conditions, a 12-year-old boy was lauded for his bravery when he decided to guide an ambulance across a bridge that had been submerged by floodwaters. The incident took place near the Hirerayanakumpi village in Raichur, Karnataka.

The boy, identified as Venkatesh, was playing near the banks of the stream when he was approached by the ambulance driver to guide the vehicle across the flooded bridge. In the viral video, Venkatesh can be seen wading through the floodwaters with the ambulance following closely behind him.

The ambulance was ferrying sick children and a dead woman’s body to the nearest hospital.

Venkatesh was awarded a bravery commendation for his efforts on India’s 73rd Independence Day.
