Bengaluru: A total of 107 Africans, mostly from Nigeria and Uganda, have been arrested in Bengaluru for overstaying, on Saturday morning, during a special drive in the Whitefield areas such as T C Palya, Brindavan Layout, Seegehalli, Priyankanagar, Anandapura, Margondanahalli and other places. The police had acted on a tip-off from Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) about foreign nationals staying in the locality illegally.
While the arrested have been sent to judicial custody, the FRRO will take a call on their deportation.
Even house owners who had rented their apartments have been booked as they did not follow the procedures of asking tenants for their passports and visa copies and informing the local police about the same.
Two of the arrested Africans were in possession of ganja and cocaine and one other person was wanted in a case which is being probed by the CCB sleuths, said police sources adding that most of the arrested had come to India on a student visa.
