Bagalkot: Aihole and Badami in Bagalkot district, the two historical sites in the State will be granted the prestigious UNESCO heritage tag in the next two months.
The tourism sector in north Karnataka could get the much required boost due to the two historical sites. The Hampi monuments in Ballari and Pattadakallu temple complex in Bagalkot are already given the UNESCO heritage tags.
A committee, which was formed by the UNESCO and the state government, has submitted its final report on declaring the two historical places as UNESCO sites. S Rajashekar, a committee member said that the UNESCO committee will finalise the names of Aihole and Badami to add in the heritage site list in the next two months. “Apart from Hampi and Pattadakallu, Western Ghats have also been declared a bio-diversity hot-spot. In fact we wanted even the Mahakoota temple complex to be included in the list,” he informed.
