Bagalkot: Two villages in Bagalkot district got submerged in Krishna waters following heavy rains in Maharashtra and Belagavi district on Friday.
Water gushed into Mutturu and Kankanavadi villages in Jamkhandi taluk after water was released from Almatti reservoir, washing off a cement factory to acres of fields that cultivated vegetables on basin of Ghataprabha. It is said that as much as 40,000 cusecs of water was released from the Almatti reservoir on Friday evening, which added to the situation.
Eight houses were partially damaged due to heavy downpour in Belagavi taluk. Meanwhile, rains receded in several parts of Shivamogga district on Friday. Shivamogga and Bhadravathi received moderate rains in the afternoon for a short period. The remaining parts of the district witnessed sunshine throughout the day.
Kodagu district received moderate rainfall on Friday. In the last 24 hours, the district recorded 11.13 mm rainfall.
The water-level in Harangi dam reservoir stood at 2,857.3 feet. Dakshina Kannada district received an average rainfall of 22.6 mm.
With copious rains in Cauvery catchment area, the inflow into Krishnaraja Sagar dam has increased. The water level at the reservoir was 96.65 ft on Friday against the maximum of 124.80 ft.
