Bengaluru: Seven constables of Navanagara police station stand suspended in connection to a robbery case.
Superintendent of Police C B Rishyanth has suspended seven constables for robbing Rs 20 lac in the name of a raid from two men who were exchanging old currency notes on commission. It is said that on December 27, two men from Hosuru in Hubballi had camped in a lodge in Bagalkot with Rs 20 lac in new Rs 2,000 notes.
A constable who got to know of the deal that was about to be struck, informed six of his colleagues and raided the spot where the deal was to take place. The team of constables took away the money and shared it among themselves.
However, vary victims brought the matter to the notice of the senior police officials, but did not lodge any complaint.
The news was covered by the media with clarification from the then SP M N Nagaraj, who had stated that no such incident had taken place.
But in a rather surprising move, Rishyanth who took charge as SP recently investigated the case and found the involvement of the seven constables prima facie. The SP has suspended them and a departmental inquiry will e taken up soon. It is further said that after getting share of ‘robbed’ money, the constables have not reported to duty.
