Jamkandi MLA Siddu Nyamgowda dies in road accident

Bagalkote: Jamkandi MLA Siddu Nyamgowda died in a road mishap that took place during the wee hours of Monday, May 28, at Tulasigeri village here.

It is said that the mishap occurred when the MLA’s driver ran the vehicle into a wall in a bid to escape a lorry. Five including the MLA were injured and were rushed to Kerodi Hospital.

They were returning home after completing a pilgrimage to Nizamuddin Auliya Dargah in Delhi. They had reached Panji by air and were plying back home in an Innova.

It is said that the MLA suffered severe injuries and did not respond to treatment.

Nyamgowda (70) had defeated Ramakrishna Hegade once and went on to become a central minister as well.

The mortal remains of the MLA has been forwarded to Bagalkot district hospital for Post Mortem, following which it will be handed over to the family for the last rites.

He was one of the 78 Congress MLAs who were elected to the Karnataka Assembly in the May 12 polls. He was also a contender for a ministerial berth in the new Congress-JD(S) government headed by Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.

Nyamagowda was re-elected from the Jamkandi constituency by defeating his nearest rival, BJP’s Shrikanth Subbarao Kulkarni by over 2,500 votes.
