Involve in research activities to better farming sector: CM BSY

Bagalkot: Chief Minister, B. S. Yediyurappa has opined that the Horticulture University should be involved in more research-oriented programmes to help the farmers obtain higher outputs.

Speaking at the inauguration of the three-day Horticulture Fair online organised by the University of Horticulture Science-Bagalkot on Saturday, he said that Karnataka stands second in the country in horticulture production.

“ It is a matter of great pride for Karnataka that we stand second in the country in the production of horticulture products”, he said and added that the Horticulture sector has given a revenue of Rs. 44879 crore to the state.

CM said that scientists should not only work to retain this position but also try to improve the farming sector.
Asserting that the government is ready to provide all basic facilities for research, he said that the demands for researchers will be met to boost the farming sector.

To realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream to double farmers’ income in the coming days, he said that the state government will also prepare parallel plans towards that purpose.

Informing that the PM recently flagged off 100th Kisan Train in the country, he said that in three months, some 27,000 tonnes of agricultural commodities have been transported through Kisan Rail.

He said that the perishable goods benefitting from these trains as they would be transported to other states without perishing.
Deputy Chief Minister, Govind Karjol added that it was CM who inaugurated the university in 2008, which has vastly helped farmers in the North Karnataka region.

Claiming that the government is committed towards the interests of the farmers, Karjol said that with the expansion of the horticulture area is proof of the government’s efforts in helping the farmers.

Speaking on the occasion, Horticulture Minister, K. C. Narayanagouda said that export of horticultural commodities has increased in Karnataka from 2.5 %to 5% which would be increased more in the coming days.
