Bagalkot: The BJP leaders are on a spree of issuing controversial statements. After Union Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur and MP Parvesh Verma, here in the state MLA Basanagoud Patil has opined that it was a blunder committed by Mahatma Gandhi that led to ‘inefficient’ Jawaharlal Nehru becoming the Prime Minister of India.
Addressing a pro-CAA rally in Bagalkot, Yatnal said that though majority wanted Sardar Vallabhai Patel to become the first Prime Minister of Independent India, it was Mahatma Gandhi who made a mistake.
“Due to this mistake, an inefficient Nehru, who was leading a luxurious, pompous life became the PM. It is said that his cigars came from London and his clothes were sent to London for dry-cleaning. Today, these people talk about poverty,” he said.
Claiming that the CAA was not against any Indian Muslim, he stated that it was against all those who play politics to safeguard their own ‘chairs’.
