Jamakhandi: A major fire broke out in a factory on Jambgi Road that manufactures diesel oil filter paper on Sunday, September 11. Property worth Rs 3 crore was reportedly gutted in the mishap.
The fire was noticed by the watchman of the premises who imeediately formed director Sanjeev Basappa Teli, who in turn informed the same to Fire and Emergencies Service personnel. The manufacturing unit was completely gutted in the fire, before the fire squad could reach the spot.
According to sources, an electrical short circuit has led to the accident at SRS Papers and Boards Private Ltd. No casualties were reported as the incident occurred when the factory was closed on account of Ganesha festival. Machinery, raw materials, oil filter papers and furniture were completely destroyed in the mishap.
The unit used to import raw materials from the United States. It is gathered that the unit had imported raw materials worth Rs 40 lakh from the US. The unit used to supply diesel oil filter papers used in trucks, tractors and other vehicles, to Bengaluru, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and other states.
Jamakhandi Rural police have registered a case. Further investigations are on.
