Volvo is expected to launch the new V90 Cross Country in India by the end of July 2017. Ahead of the car’s official launch, it has been spotted in Mangalore without any camouflage.

The V90 Cross Country was globally unveiled in September 2016. It is essentially a rugged version of the regular V90, which is based on Volvo’s flagship sedan – the S90. Visually, the V90 Cross Country is differentiated from the regular estate model through the presence of 20-inch alloy wheels, black plastic cladding over the wheel arches, prominent roof rails and skid plates on the front and rear bumpers.

In addition to the cosmetic changes, the V90 Cross Country has also been designed and engineered to be more off-road friendly. It gets an additional 65 mm of ground clearance over the regular V90 estate and a Borg-Warner all-wheel drive (AWD) system as standard.

It is not yet clear whether or not the India-spec V90 Cross Country will borrow its powertrain options from the S90 sedan. However, speculations suggest that it will be offered with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that develops 222 BHP and 470 Nm of torque. This is the same engine that powers the XC90 SUV. Transmission duties are likely to be handled by an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
