Kolar: In a major embarrassment to the BJP state unit president Nalin Kumar Kateel and revenue minister R Ashok, police dispersed the crowd by lathi-charge in Kolar city, on Saturday late evening in which both the leaders were participating.
According to the sources, police resorted to lathi-charge as the BJP supporters wanted to take the procession in a sensitive area where the rally was prohibited.
According to the BJP leaders, as part of the nationwide initiative, the party had organised pro-CAA rally in the city on Saturday evening. BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel, revenue minister R Ashok and others were leading this procession.
The district police permitted procession through MG road of the city, but once the procession started, a few BJP leaders asked permission to change the route. The police declined permission. When the BJP activists started to move forward in the prohibited areas, police resorted to a lathi-charge.
A few BJP activists were injured in the lathi-charge. Activists ran away from the spot by leaving the national flags on the road. Later police collected the flags and stored them.
The public event was held as per the schedule later. The city witnessed a tense situation due to the lathi charge.
