Kolar: Tomato growers of Kolar district, who often dump truckloads of their produce on streets to protest against lack of remunerative prices, are beaming as traders from Dubai and Pakistan have placed orders for these fruits.
Prices of tomatoes have shot up, with a box containing 15 kg selling at Rs 500. Indications are that prices would remain high through July, much to the delight of farmers of Kolar district. Even low quality tomatoes are being sold at Rs 200 per box.
It is said that traders from Pakistan and Dubai placed orders for tomatoes as most of their harvest was affected by torrential downpour. But, this has not been confirmed by authorities at Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC),Kolar.
