Bengaluru: With the Indian government deciding to disconnect the supply of tomatoes to Pakistan post-Pulwama attack, growers of Kolar have decided to stand in support of the nation.
The local growers of Kolar are quoted in Bangalore mirror saying how supplying tomatoes to Pakistan earns them higher profits, but they are ready to turn their back to the higher profits for the sake of the nation.
“We are willingly letting that profit go because nation comes first,” said a grower, who one among the 2500 growers of tomatoes found in and around Kolar district.
As per the report, several hundreds of tonnes of tomatoes are supplied to India-Pakistan border on daily basis from the local APMC yard. At least 20 such trucks go to India-Bangladesh border too, shooting the turn over at the APMC to Rs one cr per day, during the peak season.
However, the traders and the APMC have come united to stop the supply to Pakistan as a mark of respect to the martyred soldiers.
Middlemen from Gujarat and Mumbai visit Kolar during peak season and they then decided on the tomatoes that go to Pakistan. We will not entertain them this time, said, vendors.
