Kolar: Members of several pro-Kannada organisations, including the Raitha Sangha, on Saturday gheraoed health and Kolar district in-charge minister, U. T. Khadar, when he arrived here to hoist the flag on the occasion of the Kannada Rajyotsava Day, stepping up their protest against the transfer of deputy commissioner, D. K. Ravi.

Waving placards in support of the officer, who has gained wide public support owing to his fearless crusade against the land and sand mafia in Kolar, the activists demanded that the government retain him as Kolar deputy commissioner.

The protesters were pacified only after Mr Khader promised to help them meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He, however, claimed that Mr Ravi himself had sought the transfer.

But when contacted, the officer told the sources he had not asked to be transferred from Kolar. “When they told me they were transferring  me, I merely said ok,” he clarified.

Asked if he wanted to continue being Kolar DC, he said he was satisfied with the work he had done in the district.
