Congress, BJP join hands to dethrone JD(S)

Kolar: It is said that there is neither long-lasting friendship nor enmity in politics. This was evident as the two major rivals the Congress and the BJP joined together to dethrone a JD(S) member from the post of president in the Robertsonpet (KGF) City Municipal Council (CMC) in a no-confidence motion on Saturday, October 31.

While the Congress-BJP combine secured 25 votes, the JD(S) alliance could win only 10 votes. While there are 35 members in the CMC, Lok Sabha member K.H. Muniyappa and MLA Y. Ramakka also had the vote to exercise. While Muniyappa voted in favour of the no-confidence motion at the specially convened meeting, Ramakka remained absent.

Among 35 councillors, five from Congress, six from BJP, three of RPI and 10 Independents along with Muniyappa voted in favour of the no- trust motion. Six JD(S) members and three Independents as well as the lone CPI (M) member voted against the motion. One Independent councillor remained absent.

Sources claim that Muniyappa’s move did not go down too well with many Congressmen in KGF. Hence, they have filed a complaint with party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi against Muniyapa, it is said.
