Kolar: In a big relief to the BJP state leadership, D S Veeraiah, who had filed his nomination papers as a rebel BJP candidate from the Kolar (SC) reserved Lok Sabha constituency, has agreed to withdraw his nomination.
It can be recalled that Veeraiah was a strong contender for the BJP ticket from the constituency, but the party passed him over and gave the ticket to Muniswamy, a BBMP corporator.
After an hour-long discussion with BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa, Veeraiah agreed to withdraw his nomination. The Dalit face of the BJP, Veeraiah is currently serving as an MLC.
From the Kolar constituency, the Congress-JDS alliance has fielded seven-time MP and former union minister K H Muniyappa as their candidate.
