Kasargod: A special team led by a DySP grade officer has been formed to probe into the killing of two youth Congress members. Meanwhile, the hartal call given by the UDF witnessed outstanding response on Monday.
The protest rally by the UDF to condemn the killing turned violent on Monday morning and the police resorted to lathi-charge to bring the situation under control. The protesters, who disturbed the vehicular movement on National Highway, resorted to destroying the campaigning material of the CPM and the LDF.
It may be recalled that Kripesh, 24 and Sharath Lal, 21, two Youth Congress members were hacked to death at Periya in Kasargod on Sunday night while the two were plying on a bike. While Kripesh had died on the spot, Sharath Lal died on the way to a hospital.
It is said that the killing is only an ugly continuation of the political tension existing in the region in the past. A fight had broken out between the CPM and the Congress workers recently. As many as 11 from both parties had been arrested by the Bekal police then.
The two were involved in the same case and were out of judicial custody only a couple of days ago.
