Normal life in Kasargod hit by Bharat bundh

Kasargod: Several labour unions answered the call for a ‘Bharat bundh’ and staged a protest against the Centre’s anti-labour policies in Kasargod on Wednesday, January 8.

KSRTC and private bus drivers, autorickshaw drivers, and taxi drivers participated in the strike. As a result, bus services and vehicular traffic came to a standstill. Only a few vehicles were seen plying on the roads. Besides this, storefronts remained shut and low attendance was observed in most schools and colleges.

After 10 am, roads were blocked for vehicles by members of the agitating labour unions. They also staged a protest march in the area. All labour organisations, except for the BJP-backed BMS, have supported the strike. Employees working in banks, insurance and public sector firms supported the general strike.
