Kasargod: In the Child Line advisory committee meeting chaired by Additional District Magistrate N Devidas, it has been decided that stringent action would be taken against child abuse.

In the meeting held at deputy commissioner’s office, Additional District Magistrate Devidas opined, “If all the departments come together and conduct investigations the child abuse cases can be curbed in an effective manner. With regard to this, the police, excise, social welfare and many other departments will be conducting Child Line joint operations. Around 30 officials will be specially trained for this.”

While reviewing the child abuse cases, the meeting arrived at a conclusion that the Child Line had conducted several successful investigations and also raised concern on the matter that many of the cases were pertaining to jurisdiction of Municipality Corporation and Chengala Gram Pancahayat.

In the meeting it was decided that only the trained and eligible staff must conduct counseling session for children at schools. It also said that the children must be prevented from instances such as taking drop from strangers.

The meeting made it clear that cases where children have discontinued academics must be taken seriously and inspection of shops near schools must be conducted to ensure drugs are not sold near schools.

Assistant Superintendent of Police P B Prashob, convener of Child Line Anish Jose, assistant director of Education Department K N Pushpa and others were present.
