Istanbul: The toll from bombing attacks in Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport has risen to 42, with 239 others injured, BBC reported quoting Turkish officials.
Twenty-three of the victims were Turkish citizens and 13 foreign nationals were also among the casualties, an official has said. A total of 41 people have already been confirmed dead, but Turkish officials said that number is expected to rise to 50.
The attack took place on Tuesday night when three attackers arrived in a taxi and began firing at the terminal entrance. Witnesses have described the terrifying moment three suicide bombers launched a co-ordinated attack on the airport.
Turkish investigators are examining CCTV footage, witness statements and mobile phone video recorded by terrified passengers to try to determine the identity of the attackers. Shocking footage has shown an explosion at the door to the arrivals hall by a suicide bomber before another two attackers snuck into the building and detonated their devices.
Flights had resumed early Wednesday morning, though with many cancellations and delays.
