Udupi: The taluk Anganwadi workers and assistants staged a protest against the union government in front of Udupi Tahsildhar’s office at Bannanje near here on Monday, February 6.

The protesters stated that previous UPA government in 2011/12 budget had increased their allowance to Rs 1,500 for Angnawadi workers and Rs 750 for assistants along with salary at Rs. 3,000 and Rs 1,500 respectively. “But though BJP is in the Centre for the last three years it has neither increased the salaries nor any allowance. Meanwhile, in the union budget of 2017/18 no increment has been proposed. We strongly condemn this,” they alleged.

Their demand is an increase in the salary to Rs 18,000 and allowances to a minimum of Rs 3,000, provision of ESI, PF, gratuity, additional DA and other benefits.

Udupi Taluk Anganwadi workers as well as assistants protested against the central government’s budget.

Meanwhile, Sheela Shetty, Udupi Zilla Vice President and BJP leader spoke against the state government that even though so many Bhagya’s were announced by it, the Anganawadi workers stood completely neglected.
