Train passenger robbed of over 4 kg gold at gun point in Suratkal station

Udupi : A passenger on Mumbai-bound Netravati express was robbed of over 4kg of gold by armed robbers here in the wee hours of Monday morning, September 18.

The passenger, Rajendra Singh who works for a jewellery company in Mumbai was travelling with a suitcase containing gold bangles weighing around 4.11 kg in sleeper class S-7. As per the complaint filed by Singh the robbers, who were conversing in Hindi boarded the train at Suratkal and threatened him with a gun and knife. They then escaped with the suitcase containing the ornaments as the train resumed its onward journey. Singh is said to have suffered a few injuries in the incident.

Once the train reached its next stop at Padubidri, Singh got down and lodged a complaint with the police.

Dr. Sanjeev Patil Superintendent of Police, Udupi district said that three teams headed by Rishikesh Sonawane IPS Additional SP have been formed to trace the robbers.

A case has been registered in Padubidri Police Station.
