Sri Lankan former cricket stalwarts visit Manipal Hospital for fund raising event

Manipal: Former cricketers of Sri Lanka, Roshan Mahanama and Romesh Kaluwitharane participated in the “Meet and Greet” programme organised by Reach Our Club of Melaka, Manipal Medical College, Manipal campus on Sunday, January 15.Roshan Mahanama, brilliant fielder, batsman of his time and also ICC referee and Romesh Kaluwitharne, wicket keeper cum batsman-both members of the World Cup winning team in 1996 were the guests of honour.

Both spoke about cricket in Sri Lanka in an interactive session.

The event “Meet and Greet” was held as a prelude to a charity concert to be held on 4 February 2017 at KMC Greens. The event is being organised for raising funds for the economically challenged patients and the neonatal unit of Kasturba Hospital. Under the leadership of Dr. Leslie Lewis, Neonatal ICU, the funds raised will be used to help the babies from poor families admitted to the Neonatal unit.

The NICU takes care of 90 babies every month and one surgery costs around Rs 2-3 Lakh approximately and sometimes the expenses may shoot up to Rs 5 Lakh.
