Vidyaprasanna Swamiji of the Kukke Subrahmanya Math and Vishwavallabhatheertha Swamiji of Sodhe Math will script history by making a move towards friendship and healthy relationship between two Maths. On May 29, the two seers are scheduled to meet each other at Udupi Anantheshwara Temple, in presence of all the senior seers of the Ashta Matha.Sode - Kukke Math Seers decide to bury 250-yr-old hatchet-1Out of the 800-year-old Ashta Mathas, Sodhe math has a special place as Sodhe Vadiraja Swamiji is the oldest of all the swamijis of the eight math.

Legends have it that during 18th century siblings from Undaaru-Vishwanidhi Theertha Swamiji (gets his 'deeksha' or initiation at the Sodhe Math) and Vishwadhishwara Theertha become heads of Sodhe and Subrahmanya Math respectively.

Once Sodhe Seer was invited to Kukke Math for a special programme. However, during those days when vehicles were only an imagination, Sodhe seer could not make it to the event on time. But, Kukke seer goes ahead with the event and finishes the programme without waiting for the invitee-Sodhe seer. On reaching the venue, irked Sodhe seer takes it as an insult and returns deciding that there will never be a connection between the two maths. Since then, for 250 years now, none of the Swamijis who ascended to the Peetha of both Maths met or communicated with each other. It is said that the Sodhe seers never stepped on the pious land of Subrahmanya after this incident.

The 'reconciliation' program will be held over four days during which the two seers are expected to first seek blessings and forgiveness of Lord Anantheshwara, Lord Chanramaulishwara and Lord Krishna in the Udupi Sri Krishna Temple premises. From here, they will proceed to Kukke Subrahmanya and Sodhe Math in Sirsi. Thousands of devotees are expected to take part in the event.
