Udupi: Chandra K Hemmadi, journalist who abused minor boys in Kundapur taluk has been produced before the District and Sessions Court here. The court has sent him to judicial custody till December 17.
Accused Chandra K Hemmadi faces a total of 21 cases in four police stations under POSCO Act-16 in Byndoor police station, three in Gangolli, one in Kundapur Rural and one in Kandlur station. It is said that Hemmadi used to befriend school boys, then take them to secluded places and sexually abused them.
The CPI Byndoor Gunaga produced Hemmadi before the District and Session Judge in Udupi on Monday morning.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Vijay Vasu Poojary said that this is the first such case in Karnataka where this number of cases have been registered against a single accused. Further investigations are going on and there could be more such cases against him, he said. The accused has not applied for bail till now.
Chandra K Hemmady has been working as a reporter in a leading newspaper. He married two years ago and has a son.
